Teachers decide if students should hand in their assignments through Turnitin in Canvas. If students want to use Turnitin, they should express that to their teacher, and they will make the decision. Students cannot request to use Turnitin on their own, and it is always assignment based via Canvas. Every final thesis should be handed in through Turnitin.
Library employees do not assist students in interpreting Turnitin results. Teachers handle that themselves. A Turnitin percentage doesn't say the whole story. Turnitin indicates some similarity in the text, but it doesn't distinguish if there is proper citations and referencing or if it's plagiarism. It's not possible to say that below a certain percentage is acceptable. Although anything higher than 30% is a strong indicator, something is not right and needs further inspection.
